![]() ![]() He does a good job of highlighting the pros and cons of both Diablo II's approach, and Diablo III's approach, which is a refreshing reminder to recognize that game design isn't a binary "right/wrong" kind of system. He talks a lot about why they made certain changes like the ones to Skills/Runes and combat design as a whole. I love this one, its honestly so refreshing to watch it from time to time. Just because a decision is made that ends up being a negative overall, that doesn't mean the intention was malicious or that the dev team is out of touch, most of the time they end up agreeing with us. ![]() While we might not agree with every change that's made, its important to remember that every decision is made for a reason. These guys and gals are passionate, and they know their stuff. ![]() Debates happen internally all the time, and its rare to see an entire team unanimously rallying behind a specific change or feature. Whatean by that is that the devs know what they do right or do wrong, and just because a game releases doesn't mean that every single person on that team is 100% happy with a feature or its implementation. ![]() With all the negativity going on within the subreddit, and a seemingly reignited hate train being rode for Diablo III and Blizzard at large, I think its important to appreciate the simple fact that the devs are absolutely are of Diablo's legacy and the impact Diablo III has had on the fanbase and franchise. Helps me keep a level head and an open mind when discussing games, but I digress.įor these talks, these are (or were, rather) high up dudes at Blizzard's development team, tearing apart the game and what it did wrong, while also talking about what it did right and how to emulate the successes while avoiding the failures. On a personal level it always does me good to watch some GDC talks from time to time from across the industry. Wonderful hour long talks about Diablo III's development, done in post-mortem fashion.
